What We Do

The Peabody Education Foundation provides unique programs and advanced technology to thousands of students who might otherwise not enjoy such experiences due to budget constraints. Our programs are intended to benefit and guide children as they develop into successful citizens and leaders.

PEF Grants

PEF Grants is the signature program of the Peabody Education Foundation. Our PEF Grants program sponsors the funding of additional worthwhile materials and programs proposed by the teachers and principals. Since 1985, the Peabody Education Foundation has worked endlessly to raise over $1M from within the community to bring innovative programs to our public schools!  Click below to learn more!

Mental Wellness Initiative

Supporting student well-being is a key focus of the Peabody Education Foundation. Through our Mental Wellness Initiative, we provide resources and programs that help students develop the emotional and social skills they need to succeed.

A cornerstone of this effort is the districtwide Wayfinder program. Available in every Peabody Public School, this research-backed curriculum helps students build confidence, resilience, empathy, leadership, and a sense of belonging while giving them tools to navigate challenges both in and out of the classroom.

Birthday Books Program

The Birthday Books Program helps foster a lifelong love of reading by providing elementary school students with a new book to celebrate their birthday. Through partnerships with Peabody’s schools, students receive high-interest, age-appropriate books that reflect the diversity of our community. By putting books directly into children’s hands, the program encourages family reading time, supports literacy, and helps build home libraries that can be enjoyed for years to come.

Guest Reader Program

The Guest Reader program is for students in kindergarten through grade 5. Every year, from January through late May, business leaders, city officials and local citizens spend 20 to 30 minutes per week in an elementary school classroom reading aloud to the children.

Scholarships

The Peabody Education Foundation is proud to support local students through two annual scholarship programs. The Cara E. Murtagh Memorial Scholarship honors Cara’s dedication to education and is awarded to a Peabody Veterans Memorial High School senior pursuing a career in the field of education, while the Maureen “Moe” Brodeur Memorial Scholarship recognizes Moe’s legacy of leadership and community service by supporting PVMHS seniors pursuing careers in business. Both scholarships celebrate academic achievement, strong character, community involvement, and a commitment to making a positive impact

George Peabody Legacy Awards

The George Peabody Legacy Award is presented by the Peabody Education Foundation to recognize and honor the educators and philanthropists from within the community who work to provide a lifetime of contributions to our educational system.  It is our honor to recognize educators who have gone above and beyond to make a lasting difference in the lives of their students.
